At Holistic Hands Osteo, we treat a wide range of musculoskeletal aches, pains and injuries. Here is a snap shot of what your Osteopath can treat -

HEADACHE/MIGRAINE

There are numerous causes of headaches. Most are not serious and your Osteopath can help establish a diagnosis and address any causative factors in your life style. The most common headaches are tension headaches, with migraines also commonly experienced. This can be due to tension and strain in the joints and muscles in the neck and upper back resulting in an ache and tenderness in the head and neck.

Treatment from your Osteopath may help. This includes gentle massage, mobilising through the neck and back to ease built-up tension and improve mobility, and providing advice on life style and exercise changes including your posture, the way you work and how you sleep can all assist in treating a head ache or migraine.

If your headache is accompanied by nausea, dizziness or vomiting it is best to get checked out by your G.P.

POSTURAL dysfunctions

As we get older, we engage in bad habits such as slouching, which cause muscles to fatigue and strain, leading to poor posture. Your Osteopath will take you through a thorough case history and examine your posture and create an individualised management plan. This can include life style adjustments such as they way you sit at your desk, drive your car and sleep.

PREGNANCY

An Osteopath can offer support to you during and after pregnancy. Hormonal changes and carrying and accommodating extra weight alters the body’s biomechanics, putting pressure on structures and resulting in pain and instability. With a through assessment and treatment, an Osteopath can help to relieve the stress and tension from the painful and aching areas, and help develop strength and stability through the structures lacking.

SPORTS, INJURIES AND INJURY PREVENTION

When you find yourself injured and unsure how to get back on track, this is where we can help. We want you to continue with your active life, and can provide strategies to get moving again without having to give up what you love. An osteopath can help improve performance, treat the occurrence of injury and support injury prevention. By using their knowledge of diagnosis and highly developed palpatory skills they can help to restore structural balance, improve joint mobility and soft tissue restrictions so that ease of movement is restored. We will then provide with necessary rehab exercises and advice to manage your injury and prevent it from reoccurring.

SCIATICA

“Sciatica” is a descriptive term of pain experienced when the sciatic nerve is irritated, and can be felt as pain in the low back, glutes and legs. This nerve irritation could be because of an entrapment, disc injury and tight muscles in the low back and glutes.

Your Osteopath will assess where the pain is likely coming from and provide you with gentle treatment to mobilise through the joints and release through the muscles to help alleviate this sciatic pain.

ARTHrITIS

Arthritis is an umbrella term for many medical conditions that affect the musculoskeletal system, especially through the joints of the body. There is often degeneration of joints and their cartilage, stiffness and pain, weakness and deformities. The most common forms of arthritis are:

  • Osteoarthritis

  • Rheumatoid Arthritis

  • Gout

Treatment is individual and may include gentle mobilisation through the affected joints, and massaging surrounding muscles and tissues to ease some of the discomfort. Your Osteopath may also work on mobility of the surrounding areas to improve the mechanics of the body and provide you with ways to modify your daily activities.

NECK PAIN

Neck pain is a common complaint among patients and it’s no surprise. We spend our days working over a computer, driving long distances and engaging in poor posture. This can lead to the joints and muscles in our neck and upper back becoming tight, fatigued and strained which can contribute to ongoing neck problems. An Osteopath will help identify these causes and advise appropriate changes.

GOLFERS AND TENNIS ELBOW

Repetitive strain injuries like Tennis and Golfers Elbow are overuse injuries causing inflammation, irritation and degeneration to the muscles and tendons in the elbow where they attach to the bone.
